Anchor Group Evangelization

The following comes from a communication I sent to our Anchor Group teams in ministry. We’re nearing the end of season two as we design opportunities for our young adults to go out with challenges that give them experience to talk about the faith. From going to church and asking parishioners about their faith or bringing their bibles to a coffee shop to read and pray.

This is a time for the faithful to get out from behind the castle walls of parish life and take the “Missio” of Mass with us. The Great Commission of Matthew 28 is a call for each of us as disciples. Here’s the latest message to encourage them…

Alright alright alright.

This is the last Anchor Group challenge for the season before we take a break and reboot for season three.

Doing ministry is tough stuff.

You’ve had a taste of some of this through here and maybe in other settings. It’s difficult to stay in the game and see the next challenges ahead.

The current turnover rate for people in professional youth ministry and religious education are extraordinarily high. Stats are less available for those giving of their time in a volunteer role but typically it’s similar.

I think the conversation is 2D in a 3D map. I think we do a disservice talking about the pro involvement when we should be engaging the laity to go out and do ministry not as a job but a role for the faithful. For those of us who have said ‘yes’ to serve with our careers, it’s easy to mix it up with work-talk.

As someone who has spent 23 years doing ministry at various levels including giving a dozen years full-time, I spent a lot of time and conversations around the topic. But I can see with greater clarity what we’re doing from the outside now.

We’ve been blessed in our environment to establish a semblance of a culture to grow in here, amen! I think the Holy Spirit is doing something with this community here to build disciples who are moving relational earth. The call for you as disciples anchoring people to Jesus is to engage opportunities that the Holy Spirit opens up.

I hope that a group like this gives you not only the courage but the experience to engage opportunities around you. It’s not someone else’s job to do this, it’s everyone’s call (the Great Commissioning in Matthew 28) to do this.

You’re called.

You’re it.

There are many out there, but there is only one “you” getting knocked on the heart like this.

So, keep saying ‘yes’ and our God will keep putting you where you need to be. Whether the challenges are formal like below or they just appear – Be Brave.

In Christ,

Adam
