Daddycademy
I think it’s important for fathers to teach their kids. While Ani does a great job curating curriculum and teaching the kids for homeschool, there are lessons I want to teach our kids off curriculum. I came up with what I call Daddycademy. The idea of dads teaching their kids isn’t new, and there are handles online with similar titles. But I wanted to create my own with a focus on five categories – Faith & Theology, History & Civics, Business & Money, Trades & Skills, and Gam

Eyes Up, Martha – Holy Week
The scramble of Lent, family, dreamings, doings – it’s time to just reorient as we square up with the Triduum. This is the biggest happening in history nd we’re reflecting on it. The reason we’re Christians, Christ-ians… Jesus changed everything. Let’s really spend some time engaging with it.

Build Your Cabinet
I was talking with a gentleman yesterday about the discipline in our lives and how important it was to have a support system to keep it going. The conversation inspired me to write a 101 about what it looks like to have an effective support system. Or like a president, build your cabinet of strong and experienced voices to give you insight, challenge perception, and encourage your growth. Consider the following team.

Priorities V – The Leisure
Adventure calls, and it is up to us to answer. We can burn ourselves out with all the dreamings and doings of life. Guilty of that myself. So with that, don’t let leisure just be wasted time in-between things to do – make the most of it.

Time Out: Defend the Family
There are real failures happening in the culture today. Bad people want your kid’s minds and souls. Be aware and defend the family. The righteous men and women need to speak up and start making a pushback for values and against vice. Teach your kids well because no one has a greater interest than you.

Advent Reset
Advent is more than Christmas to-dos. After I took a long exhale and regrouped I changed my mind. We put a YouTube crackling fire on the TV and opened up some books and snuggled in. The kids smothered me on the floor as I read and Ani sat behind me…

Make That Vacation Time!
I’m not great at the vacation thing in this season of life, maybe you can relate. There’s so much to do and two weeks doesn’t seem like a lot of time to do it. I have plenty of run-over from work on my mind. I’ll have finished vacation time by the time my head realizes I’m on it.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda – SMART Goals
You can either square up with what’s been sitting on the heart or confirm that it’s not something you’re going to do — which frees up cap space for the things you do want to do. But as my dad raised us on… “the worst things in life are the woulda, coulda, shouldas.”

Dad Life Ponderings Continue
Life is a bit of a whirlwind now. So many moving pieces, none more important than raising our family. This is a tough season. This is a rare type of … Continue reading Dad Life Ponderings Continue

Newborn Ponderings
One of my favorite (but happy when it’s over) moments as a dad with newborns is the late-night ponderings. Often pacing and swaying with baby in arm you think about life as seconds tick by. Those seconds can feel so long on little sleep but those are seconds you won’t get back. They’re already done. … Continue reading Newborn Ponderings
