“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle.”
– Ian MacLaren
It has been absolutely the most contentious and interesting election season of my lifetime. I’ll spare the politics here but I do want to reflect on how we can lead well in our space.
Life continues. Win or lose, life continues. There is always a next round of politics but what is in front of you doesn’t change. Stay dutiful to the vision laid out before you. Do it with vigor and be resilient win or lose.
Tensions are high. There are a lot of pressure points to the results of the election. No matter which side of the aisle you fall on, be a person of honor and lead with respect. It can be easy and gratifying to put someone’s head in the sand out of emotion or bravado. Take on the virtue of temperance – emotional restraint or self-control. By walking the golden mean you bring the temperature down around you. Instead of fights, you’ll open for conversation. Whether with your team or family, you can lead the dance by being solid ground where some folks just might not have that in their life to rely on. If you struggle with this, meditate on it in prayer. Ask for peace.
Contribute to a society that allows us the liberty to worship freely, raise our families well, and do work that matters. Use and act on your conscience. Continue to form your mind and pray for the renewal of hearts. We are a Christian nation but what keeps us that way is Christians living that way. Our vote in this nation is one out of hundreds of millions but our prayer can be one with hundreds of millions. Pray for our country and countrymen.
