Interesting Times & New Wine Skins
I’ve been spending a lot of time pondering the synoptic Gospel’s accounts of Jesus talking about wineskins (Matthew 9:17, Mark 2:22, and Luke 5:37-39). He speaks of the incompatibility of the old and new structures… when you mix the two, the old spoils the new.
Today’s society from ministry to business to family to politics needs rebuilding. There is an old English curse, “May you live in interesting times.”
We are indeed living in interesting times.
But Jesus knows this.
Reality and history is filled with moments such as these. Where the failings of what has been needs to be refurbished or even rebuilt. The Founding Fathers recognized this when the Declaration of Independence was written,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
This is in our Christian and American heritage not because we just follow a cultural pragmatism but because there is a Holy Spirit driving the reparation of the decay of our fallen world.
To do this, the Lord the Giver of Life doesn’t show up and start doing it. He enlightens and brings courage to the faithful to build. It’s time to build new things, to build new wineskins.
This is where you as the faithful reader, are not just called to cheer from the sidelines. I’m challenging you to build something new. If you are one of the Baptized, you are gifted with a relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is where you make yourself an instrument by going to prayer, inviting the Holy Ghost inside your heart, and inviting Him to make you an instrument.
As an instrument, He’ll give you everything you need from imagination and vision to contacts, action, experience, and funds. In His time, you’ll be able to build what you’ve been designed to do.
No more sitting and scrolling. Roll up the sleeves. Build something new. If you’re ready to say yes to something like that or are struggling to get traction… just shoot me a message. Not a sales pitch. The craftsmen/women building things can’t be alone in this, you’ll get eaten up. I want to help get these people together and bring support and prayer to that.
